101 uses for a peg

Seen on the news today (I had to watch the news twice as I didn't catch it the first time). A Japanese seaweed farmer using a peg to hold the hood of his rain coat up by pegging it to his peaked cap. All my thoughts go out to the Japanese at the moment, more worries over radiation being found in the sea at 3000 times the "permitted" level.

101 uses for a free standing sign

Spring is here, and this brings out the students in Manchester to play. I spotted a group of them playing cricket on a piece of waste ground behind the college using a sign as a cricket stump. I expect there will be some jumpers for goal posts seen soon too.

101 uses for a peg

This isn't the most inventive other use for a peg, pegging up posters is quite close to pegging up washing, but as it is St Patricks Day tomorrow it seems a timely choice to post an Irish pub.
"In the late 1800's, the part of Manchester in which the pub now stands - was known as "Little Ireland", due in the main to the large numbers of Irish immigrant workers living there. However, the area was also home to extreme poverty and terrible hardship and quickly came to be synonymous with all the evils and squalor of unregulated industrialisation for Manchester had by then became notorious for.

It was in this charnel house of blood, sweat tears and tragedy that the pub we today know as the Lass O' Gowrie was born." (from the pubs own website)

101 uses for an egg box

Contributed by Will Pollard.
The use of egg boxes to chit potatoes.
(Chitting is encouraging the seed pototoes to sprout before planting).

101 uses for a hot water bottle

This might be a bit too weird..?
I catch the first train in a morning and it is freezing, the train has been in the sidings all night and takes until Manchester to warm up..hence the hot water bottle to keep my hands warm.
I recently found a second use for hotty..warming my morning croissant.

101 uses for a basket/carrier bag

Spotted outside Manchester Piccadilly station today. Cyclists seem a very resourceful bunch..as these couple of improvised baskets illustrate. Also a bonus plastic bag seat cover.
Sadly the people of Manchester seem to have found another use for the baskets... as rubbish bins!

101 uses for a lightbulb

This is the example I used to use in the lectures..sadly it fell apart..Archie has hot glued it back together for this photo..If you have a light bulb and no electricity, how can you make light? Use the lightbulb as an oil lamp.

101 uses for a paperclip

Bit of an obvious one this..but I had to mention it. This is the very paperclip I use to unblock the paper shredder in the office. (REMEMBER.always unplug electical items before poking them with anything metal.) Paperclips are also useful for pressing reset buttons.

101 uses for a Metro newspaper stand

This project might be harder than I first envisaged. On the train from Manchester to home, I spotted a young lad using a a Metro Newspaper rack to stand his bike up in. It was quite hard to photograph through the window and I was also moving away in the opposite direction, but I think you can just about see it?

101 uses for a coathanger

This is the coathanger that started the idea. I photographed this at Platt Hall in Manchester last year. Platt hall is a museum of costume , and therefore very apt that a skirthanger was used to prop open the window.

Introduction

Spring is here..and a new project begins.
Based on the Attribute listing part of my Creative Thinking lectures, I am going to create a record of all the times I spot an object being used for the purpose it wasn't intended..
Not sure how many I will find now.
I am not allowed to cheat and make my own...I can only record ones I find...
The challenge is on.
